In the fourth innings of the second test match between Pakistan and West Indies, the former were bundled out for 81 runs in 35 overs. Shannon Gabriel bowled a brilliant spell on the fifth day as he claimed a five-wicket haul by conceding only 11 runs in 11 overs. Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph chipped in with important wickets from the other end as they shared five wickets amongst them.

Alarmingly, the frequency of batting collapse by Pakistan, usually below the 100 run mark, had been on a rise post-2010. There have been seven occasions in the past seven years when Pakistani batsmen were bundled out within 100 runs.

It is a universal truth that batsmen from Asia have usually struggled in the seaming and swinging conditions of England. Pakistan had a disastrous/infamous tour to England where they were bundled out below a hundred runs in as many as three occasions.

Two years from then, Pakistanis bundled out yet again when they hosted the Englishmen in relatively known conditions of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Hearteningly, the last time such an incident occurred for the Asian team was when they hosted South Africa almost four years back in Dubai.

Interestingly, this is now the eighth occasion overall where Pakistan have been dismissed under 100 within 35 overs. Three of those collapses occurred in the fourth innings. In recent history, Pakistan visited Johannesburg and registered their lowest score ever in Test history. The match will be forever remembered for the decimation caused by Dale Steyn has he picked up six wickets in 8 overs.
