Stats: List of bowlers with more than 25 wickets in an IPL edition
Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the 5th bowler in the history of the tournament to scalp 25 or more wickets in a single edition.
Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged the Purple Cap after the conclusion of the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This was the second consecutive occasion when he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the season. He was the winner of the Purple Cap last year as well. In the 10th edition of the tournament, Bhuvneshwar finished with 26 wickets to his name in the 14 matches that he featured in.
With his efforts, he joined the elite list of bowlers to have taken 25 or more wickets in a single edition of the IPL. He became the 5th bowler in the history of the tournament to scalp 25 or more wickets in a single edition. The first bowler to have ever achieved this feat was Mumbai Indians premier pacer Lasith Malinga.
Malinga had bagged 28 wickets in the 2011 edition of the tournament. He had played 16 matches for his efforts that saw his team end up as the finalists of the tournament. He averaged 13.39 with the ball and the best figures of 5/13 in that season. In the very next season, Morne Morkel finished with 25 wickets to his credit while playing for the Delhi Daredevils.
He was instrumental in taking the Delhi Daredevils to the playoffs that year. The 2013 edition of the tournament saw two bowlers taking more than 25 wickets. James Faulkner had emerged on the scene as the next big thing of Australian cricket. He had scalped 28 wickets for the Rajasthan Royals and had two five-wicket hauls to his name in the tournament that year.
The other bowler to have achieved the feat in that edition was Dwayne Bravo. Bravo had won the Purple Cap with as many as 32 wickets for his franchise Chennai Superkings. Bravo repeated his excellent show in the 2015 edition as well when he finished with 26 names to his credit.
