The number ten and eleven batsmen in Tests are as important as any of the other batsman in the team. Their usual contribution is just to walking in and walking back off but on occasions, the No.10 and 11 have put up a handy batting efforts. Sri Lanka’s tail wagged quite a bit during the second Test against Bangladesh.

Their tail-ender Saranda Lakmal entered the record books during this Test, he helped the Lankans get to a decent total in the first innings that ensuring Sri Lanka had 30 odd bonus runs on the board. Come second innings Sri Lanka were again in a spot of bother, they were reduced to 238 for 8 and from there on Suranda and Dilruwan Perera wove an 80-run partnership. This partnership meant that Sri Lanka had something on the board to fight for.

Lakmal scored 35 in the first innings and 42 in the second leaving Bangladesh a tricky target of 191 runs to win. Lakmal scored more than thirty runs in both the innings. This meant that he entered into the unique list of record holders. Number ten and eleven scoring more than thirty runs in both the innings. There are not many, the last time anyone achieved this feat was back in 1988, it was Winston Benjamin for West Indies against Pakistan.

There are in all five batters who feature in the list. This queer record was first achieved back in 1895 by Albert Trott of Australia against their colonial masters England. Another Aussie accompanies Trott, Bert Oldfield who scored more than thirty twice in two innings of a match.

An Indian also features in the list. Syed Kirmani, the wicketkeeper got himself into the list while playing against the arch-rivals Pakistan in 1983.
