In the first innings of the match, New Zealand scored 378 runs in 122.4 overs after deciding to bat first. For them, debutant Devon Conway smashed a brilliant double century. He scored 200 runs off 347 balls with the help of 22 fours and a six. He was the last Kiwi batsman to get out in the innings.

Apart from him, only Henry Nicholls scored over 50 runs. Nicholls played a vital knock of 61 runs off 175 balls, including 4 fours. For England, debutant Ollie Robinson picked 4 wickets for 75 runs in 28 overs.

1 – Devon Conway became the first batsman to score a double hundred on Test debut in England. Before him, the highest score in this regard was registered by Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji, who scored 154* runs while playing for England against Australia in 1896.

1 – The Kiwi opener also became the first player to score a double ton on Test debut against England. The second-highest score after him is of West Indies cricketer George Headley, who played a 176-run knock in 1930.

7 – Overall, Conway is the seventh player to hit a double century in his first-ever match.

2 – Among the Test debutants for New Zealand, Conway is only the second to hit a double hundred, and he also registered the second-highest score in the tally. Before him, Mathew Sinclair achieved the milestone against West Indies in 1999. He scored 214 runs on his Test debut.

2 – Among the players who opened the innings on their Test debut, Conway became only the second player to hit a double ton. Before him, Brendon Kuruppu of Sri Lanka scored 201* on debut as an opener against New Zealand in 1987.

1 – Devon Conway completed his century on the first day of this match. He became the only player to complete Test century in a Lord’s Test on the very first day of his Test career.
