Stats: Mithali Raj's record breaking fifty
This was Mithali Raj’s 47th fifty, the most by any player in Women’s ODI cricket.
Playing in her 5th World Cup, Indian skipper Mithali Raj set a couple of records in the ODI cricket with a brilliant 71 against the hosts England in their opening game. Mithali added crucial fifty-run stands along with Punam Raut and Harmanpreet Kaur to hand India their highest ODI total against England and their 2nd highest ever in Women’s World Cup.
This was Mithali’s 7th consecutive fifty in ODI format and thus became the first player in Women’s cricket with 7 consecutive fifty-plus scores in this format. Three other players have scored fifty-plus scores in 6 consecutive ODI innings in Women’s cricket.
Talking about the ODI format including men’s and women’s cricket, Mithali is only the 2nd player after Javed Miandad to score 7 or more consecutive fifty-plus scores. Miandad hit fifty-plus scores in 9 consecutive ODI innings in 1987. Five other players also have fifty-plus scores in 6 consecutive ODI innings in Men’s cricket.
