Stats: Moeen Ali scores the 2nd fastest ODI hundred for England

Moeen Ali played a blistering knock in the 3rd One-Day International at Bristol against the Windies as the all-rounder blasted a century off just 53 balls. Moeen, who walked out in the 33rd over with his side five down for 210 runs, ensured they finished with a huge total of 369/9 on the board. The England all-rounder brought up his fifty off 41 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes but raced to the hundred in 53 balls taking just 12 balls for his 2nd fifty which included two fours and six sixes.

His century is the 2nd fastest ever recorded for England in ODI cricket behind Jos Buttler’s 46-ball ton against Pakistan in 2015. This century is also the fastest ever by a batsman playing at No.7 or lower in ODI cricket. James Faulkner scored a century against India off just 57 balls in 2013 while batting at No.7 while Jos Buttler also scored one from a meagre 61 balls against Sri Lanka in 2014 batting at the same position.

Fastest hundreds in ODI cricket for England:

By scoring a century after walking out to bat in the 32nd over, Moeen became only the 4th player to score an ODI ton coming into bat after the 30th over. AB de Villiers has done something similar on two different occasions while Glenn Maxwell scored one against Sri Lanka in the CWC 2015. Jos Buttler did the same during his 46-ball century against Pakistan in 2015. During this innings, the English all-rounder struck eight sixes which are the most for an England player in the ODI format. He equalled Jos Buttler’s record of eight maximums during his fastest ODI tons for England.

This was Moeen Ali’s 3rd ODI century with the previous two coming in 72 balls against Sri Lanka in 2014 and off 91 against Scotland in 2015 CWC. The 91-ball ton was the 2nd fastest World Cup hundred for an England player.
