Stats: Mohammad Hasnain becomes the youngest player to take a hat-trick in T20Is
Earlier, the record was held by Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan who took hat-trick when he was 20 years 157 days.
Mohammad Hasnain, the young gun of Pakistan got his first call up against Australia earlier this year in March where he impressed everyone with his pace and accuracy. After that, he was picked in the Pakistan squad for World Cup 2019 but didn’t get a single opportunity to showcase his skills in his trait. He was picked in the playing 11 for the match against Sri Lanka but that match got washed out due to rain, but now when he got the chance in the T20I series Hasnain grabbed it with both the hands.
The first match of the series didn’t go well for the hosts but it became a memorable match for their bowler Mohammad Hasnain who recorded his best figures in T20Is. This was the 2nd match of his T20I career in which the youngster took his first hat-trick for Pakistan. He also went on to become the youngest bowler to take hat-trick Men’s T20 Internationals that came in 19 years and 183 days. Earlier the record was in the name of Rashid Khan who took the hattrick in 20 years and 157 days.
Hasnain reached the milestone in his 2nd T20I for Pakistan
During that match in the first two overs, Hasnain got an override by the batsman and went a bit expensive but he did make a strong comeback in his 3rd over and dismissed Bhanuka Rajapaksha on the last delivery of his over. After coming back to his last over of the match he dismissed Dasun Shanaka (17) and Shehan Jayasuriya (2) consecutively on the first two balls of his 4th over that led him to become the youngest player to get a T20I hat-trick.
For Pakistan, before Hasnain, it was Faheem Ashraf who had taken the hat-trick when he was 23 years 284 days and became the youngest player from Pakistan to enter the list of top 10 bowlers to take a hat-trick in T20Is that came against Sri Lanka in 2017.
The legendary bowler from Sri Lanka Lasith Malinga also gets the 9th and 10th position in the table for his two hat-tricks that he got against Bangladesh and New Zealand when he was 33 years 221 days and 36 years 9 days respectively. And the former Australian quick Brett Lee was the first bowler in this format to grab a hat-trick that came against England when he was 30 years 310 days in 2007.
