Stats: Mohammad Nabi completes 100 ODI appearances along with Afghanistan

Mohammad Nabi has been instrumental in Afghanistan’s journey to the International setup having been part of the team as early as 2003 when he was an 18-year-old. The all-rounder has emerged as a valuable player in the world with his off-spin and big hitting skills which perfectly suit the requirements of the limited-overs formats. Nabi soon found himself feature in the top T20 leagues as the Afghanistan team caught everyone’s attraction with their rapid rise.
Nabi is a part of the ongoing 2nd ODI game between Ireland and Afghanistan which is incidentally the latter’s 100th match in the ODI cricket. This match is also the 100th ODI game of Mohammad Nabi’s career. He made his ODI debut in Afghanistan’s maiden ODI game in 2009 against Scotland and featured in each and every game that the national team has played in this format. Thus, Nabi became the first player to feature in each of a country’s first 100 ODI matches.
No player before Nabi appeared in each of a country’s first 50 ODI matches. Steve Tikolo held the record in the past when he featured in the first 49 ODI matches for Kenya. Nabi is also only the 2nd player to feature in 100 ODI matches for his team since debut. Andy Flower was the first when he featured in 172 consecutive matches for Zimbabwe since his ODI debut in 1992. Andy’s 172-match streak stands 2nd in the list of most consecutive ODI appearances for their team.
Sachin Tendulkar leads this list with 185 consecutive appearances for India from April 1990 to April 1998. South Africa’s Hansie Cronje had a streak of 162 ODIs from 1993 to 2000 before being banned from the sport. Overall, Nabi is the 14th player to feature in 100 consecutive ODIs at any point of their career for their country. Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene had two streaks of 100+ consecutive appearances for his team.
