32-year-old Dinesh Karthik failed to counter the swinging conditions at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium, the venue for the 1st ODI between India and Sri Lanka. The visitors made full use of the conditions and put a dent into the opposition batting lineup. Karthik tried his best to see off the initial overs but failed to do so.

He tried to drive the ball towards mid-on region while Suranga Lakmal’s delivery nipped back in. Karthik had a chat with debutant Shreyas Iyer and by the time he decided to opt for the review, time was well over. He went back to the pavilion, facing 18 deliveries without opening his account. He now tops the list of Indian batsmen who have faced most deliveries in ODI cricket without scoring a run.

Legendary former great Eknath Solkar is at the second spot with 17 deliveries to his name. Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly and Woorkeri Raman share the third spot, having faced 16 balls each. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar is next with 15 balls to his name.

Lankans make a mockery of the Indian batters

The Lankans have shown tremendous fight after losing the Test series 1-0 to India. Rohit Sharma is leading the men in blue, in the absence of Virat Kohli. India’s regular skipper has been rested in order get fit and ready for the tour to South Africa next year. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma perished inside 25 balls and debutant Iyer too, couldn’t get on to double digits.

Manish Pandey went for two and all-rounder Hardik Pandya looked clueless against the moving white leather. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar faced five balls but couldn’t trouble the scorers. India will look to post a fighting total on the board and have a crack at the opposition batting. Let’s take a good look at the stats table below-
