Stats: Most double tons by Indians in Tests

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is on cloud nine as he scored back-to-back double hundreds against a hapless Sri Lankan attack in the ongoing Test series. India look set to post a daunting total against their opposition. Kohli scored his 20th Test ton yesterday and broke numerous records under the sun while the Lankans toiled hard in the filed without much success.

In the second day’s play, this morning, Kohli brought up his sixth double hundred and is currently at par with some of the greats of the game. The right-hand batsman took just 105 innings to bag his sixth double ton. Former explosive opener Virender Sehwag reached the feat in 180 innings while the ‘master-blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar scored his sixth double in 329 innings.

Talking about double hundreds and Rahul Dravid can’t be too far behind. From a class act in Adelaide to the outstanding 270 in Pakistan, Dravid has given us some of the finest memories as he kept on scoring big runs. He has five 200-plus scores and it took him 286 innings to achieve the figures. Another great Sunil Gavaskar scored four double tons in 214 innings.

Kohli in red hot form

Kohli has hit a purple patch and he will look to take this one to the next level. Kohli now has a double ton against West Indies, England, New Zealand, Bangladesh and a pair of the same against Sri Lanka. Dinesh Chanimal’s side look clueless in front of the Indian skipper as he makes merry of the opportunities. What makes it even more special is the fact that he has achieved this feat at his home ground Feroz Shah Kotla.

South Africa will take a close look at the proceedings, as India are set to travel to the rainbow nation at the conclusion of this series. It will be interesting to see if Kohli can continue his domination in the foreign land.
