Another day and another milestone for Rohit Sharma! The right-handed batter has truly become a record-breaking machine regardless of the format. On Thursday (September 23), the Hitman advanced to yet another feat, becoming the first batter to complete 1000 runs against a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rohit achieved the feat none against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Rohit, who missed Mumbai Indians’ first match of IPL 2021’s UAE leg, needed 18 runs before the game to get the milestone. The swashbuckling opener went after the bowlers from the outset and played some delightful shots. As a result, he crossed the 18-run mark in the fifth over itself. Rohit indeed has a special liking towards the KKR bowlers as he fires against them more often than not.

In fact, Rohit’s only century in IPL to date also came against KKR. It was the 2012 edition of the tournament and the star batter scored 109 off 60 deliveries at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Besides this, the Mumbai Indians skipper has also smashed as many as six half-centuries against the Kolkata-based fact.

It also must be noted KKR’s home ground is the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, one of Rohit’s favourite venues. The Hitman has played has many memorable knocks at this ground including his record-breaking 264 against Sri Lanka. For the unversed, this is the highest score by any batter in One-Day International Cricket to date.

Most runs against an opponent in IPL

As mentioned above, Rohit became the very first player to amass 1000 runs against a team in IPL. This means he holds the top spot in the list of batters scoring the most runs against an IPL side. The second and third spots are occupied by former Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner. While the Australian southpaw has 943 runs against Punjab Kings, he has slammed 915 runs against KKR so far.

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli holds fourth and fifth place. He has slammed 909 and 895 runs against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals respectively.
