Dinesh Karthik ended the 2016/17 domestic in style with some consistent performances throughout the 50-over domestic competitions; Vijay Hazare Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. He scored 854 runs across two tournaments and played a major role in his stateside Tamil Nadu’s success in being crowned as the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Deodhar Trophy champions.

Despite playing only 12 List A games in the 2016/17 season, his tally of 854 runs is the 4th most in a season in List A cricket in India. The record for most runs in a season in List A cricket on Indian soil is held by Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 1159 runs in 1995/96 season. Dinesh Karthik scored his runs at an average of 85.4, strike-rate of 105.56 and struck 3 centuries and 5 fifties during this season. All his runs have come for Tamil Nadu. The previous most List A runs scored by a player for a team in an Indian season was 695 runs by Sachin in 2009/10 season, where he scored those runs for India in ODIs.
