India’s stand-in skipper for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma barely fell just 12 runs short of going past former Indian opener Virender Sehwag‘s record of most runs in an ODI innings by captains all around the world. Sehwag achieved the landmark leading the team against West Indies where he recorded his highest score of 219 runs in the One-Day International format. Rohit got close to the milestone in his 208-run knock against Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Mohali.

The opening batsman also became the first player to score three double centuries in the history of ODI cricket. And this double ton is surely a memorable one for the ‘Hitman’ as it has come while leading the national team and that too only his second game as skipper.

He continued to toy with the Lankan bowlers in all parts of the ground and took his team to a massive first innings score of 392 runs. The 30-year-old has surely made it a habit to get those daddy hundreds because as soon as he gets set at the crease, Rohit has a vast array of shots to explode with.

In 2011, Sehwag recorded his first double ton and also the second in the history of ODI cricket after the Master Sachin Tendulkar and also broke former Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of most runs by a captain in an ODI innings. Now, Rohit claimed the second spot going past the Lankan legend in his record knock against Lanka in the second ODI. He is surely in the form of his life as he has scored six centuries in the calendar year.

India’s batting legend Tendulkar is the fourth name on the list with the best score of 186 runs while leading his side against New Zealand in 1999. Another legendary leader in Kapil Dev is in the table with 175 runs against Zimbabwe in the World Cup 1983 and eventually held the prestigious trophy for the first time in the history of Indian cricket in the end of the big tournament.
