Rohit Sharma’s robotic knock of 208 runs compiled by 13 fours and 12 sixes nearly broke every milestone on the way. The marathon knock came in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Mohali and also at that moment when nobody expected him to end up getting his third double ton in this format of the game. With 12 massive sixes in his innings, the stand-in skipper also secured the second spot in the tally of most sixes by captains all around the world in one-international cricket.
It was indeed a crucial game for Rohit and team India after a big defeat in the first match of the three-match series. The Lankan bowlers struggled to bowl the right lengths and the whole team looked a bit rusty throughout the first innings of the second match. The stand-in skipper enjoyed his stay at the crease in the whole contest entertaining the fans with some beautiful strokes and hard hitting too.
Rohit comes very close to breaking AB de Villiers‘ record
The Indian opener came very close to overcoming former Proteas skipper’s AB de Villiers record of hitting the most sixes by an ODI captain all around the world. He scored 149 runs against West Indies in 2015, an innings in which he had entertained the crowd with 16 big sixes. Incidentally, Rohit fell just four sixes short of acquiring the top spot but he still broke the former South African captain’s record of cracking 11 sixes in an innings.
Former Lankan captain Angelo Mathews is also fourth on the list with 10 big hits in his 139-run knock against India in 2014. Former Aussie legendary skipper Ricky Ponting has two entries in the chart, first in which he had hit 9 sixes against South Africa in 2006 and 8 sixes came against India in 2003 World Cup final. De Villiers has one more admittance into the list being the final name with 8 sixes in his record 162-run knock against the Windies in 2015.
