Stats: Most sixes hit by batsman in an innings in T20 cricket

Windies big-hitter Chris Gayle now holds the record of hitting 18 sixes in an innings in T20 cricket, which is the most sixes by any player in a T20 inning. The Caribbean star batsman achieved the landmark in the final game of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017, between Dhaka Dynamites and Rangpur Riders. Gayle scored 146 runs off just 69 balls which was compiled by five fours and eighteen sixes in the finale for his franchise Rangpur Riders.

The ongoing fifth edition of the BPL has been a successful and entertaining one so far. All the games played were pretty exciting for the fans and crowd present at the different stadiums. And in the end, the highly awaited finale match was owned by the big West Indian with his record knock full of entertainment and terrific six hitting.

Gayle breaks his own record

Incidentally, the Windies opener bettered his own record of most sixes in an innings in T20 cricket. Previously, Gayle held this record when he scored 175 runs for RCB in the Indian Premier League game against the Pune Warriors, where his innings was compiled of 17 sixes. The third cricketer on the charts is English batsman Graham Napier who has 16 sixes to his name in his 152 run knock against Sussex in 2008. The other names on the list are some of the T20 specialists, while the Aussie opener Aaron Finch is the only one to hit 14 sixes in an international match against England.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka also smashed 16 sixes last year against in his 123-run knock. Gayle has two more entries on the list with 15 sixes for English county side Somerset and 14 big hits which came in the league game of BPL 2017 against Khulna Titans. He has been one of the most entertaining and loved cricketers when it comes to the shortest format of the game.
