Stats: MS Dhoni becomes the most capped wicketkeeper in International cricket

While MS Dhoni featured in his milestone 300th ODI game at the Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium against Sri Lanka, the former Indian captain and the keeper-batsman also become the most capped wicketkeeper in International cricket by featuring in the 4th ODI of the series. The 36-year-old is currently playing his 467th International match, all of them as a wicketkeeper.

Dhoni, who became only the 20th player and the 6th Indian to feature in 300 ODIs, also became the 2nd player after Kumar Sangakkara to feature in 300 ODIs as a wicketkeeper. Dhoni also kept wickets in 90 Test matches and 77 T20Is helping him to surpass Mark Boucher’s tally of 466 International matches as a keeper. The South African played in a total of 467 matches in his career but didn’t keep wickets in an ODI.

Dhoni who retired from the Test format in 2014, has appeared in 90 matches; the most by any Indian wicketkeeper and the 6th most for any player as a keeper.

He holds the record for being the keeper in the most number of Twenty20 Internationals as he has kept wickets in 77 games; 19 more than the next best Dinesh Ramdin (58).
