Mujeeb ur Rahman is slowly finding his mojo with the ball in the shorter formats after having a poor first half in 2019. Mujeeb came into light with his exploits in white-ball cricket, especially his skill of bowling with the new ball. This fetched him an IPL contract in 2018 at the age of 17 from Kings XI Punjab. He claimed 16 wickets in his debut season and conceded runs at less than 7 runs as an over. However, by 2019, the off-spinner began to lose control as he picked fewer wickets and conceded runs as well.

He had an economy of 10.05 runs in IPL 2019 and also conceded 66 runs in a game; the most by a spinner in an IPL match. In the T20 Blast this year, he took only 7 wickets in 10 matches at an economy over 7.23. He had a tough time in the T20Is as Afghanistan’s winning streak in this format came to an end.

However, the Bangladesh Premier League seems to be helping the youngster to bring back his control. The off-spinner has taken 8 wickets in six matches thus far and is among top five wicket-takers.

The more impressive fact is his economy rate reads only 5.08 and also bowled two maidens. Playing for the Cumilla Warriors, Mujeeb had figures of 4-1-17-1 on Tuesday despite they lost to Rajshahi Royals. He cleaned up Liton Das to break the opening stand which was incidentally his 100th wicket in Twenty20 format.

Mujeeb was only 18 years and 271 days when he got to the milestone which makes him the youngest player to 100 wickets in the T20 cricket bettering Rashid Khan’s feat (18 years and 360 days).
