Stats: New Zealand's collapse against Pakistan in the Dubai Test

New Zealand succumbed for just 90 in the first innings of the ongoing Dubai Test on the third day of the game after Pakistan made an interesting declaration at 418/5. After a delayed start to the day, the opening pair of Jeet Raval and Tom Latham added fifty for the first wicket before Yasir Shah ran through the Kiwi batting. He claimed eight wickets out of the ten as New Zealand lost all their wickets for just 40 runs. In the follow-on innings, the Blackcaps made 131/2 at end of the day with Yasir taking both wickets.

5 – The five runs aggregated by New Zealand’s No.4-11 are fewest in an innings in Test cricket. Sri Lanka’s 4-11 aggregated eight runs in their first innings of the 1990 Chandigarh Test against India.

6 – New Zealand innings included as many as six ducks which are the joint most in a Test inning. All the six ducks were of the batsmen batting between No.4 and No.11 making it the first such instance.

8/41 – Yasir Shah’s bowling figures of 8/41 are the third best figures for Pakistan in Test cricket. Abdul Qadir took 9/56 against England in 1987 while Sarfraz Nawaz claimed 9/86 against Australia in 1979.

Yasir’s bowling figures are also the best by any player in Test cricket in UAE surpassing Devendra Bishoo’s 8/49 against Pakistan in the 2016 D/N Dubai Test.

10 – Yasir Shah became the first Pakistan player to claim ten wickets in single day’s play in Test history. He is only the 2nd player after Anil Kumble with ten wickets in a day’s play in the last 60 years. Kumble recorded his perfect ten in a single day during the second innings against Pakistan in the 1999 Delhi Test.

40 – The 40 runs which New Zealand scored at the cost of ten wickets are the joint-fewest by any team after a fifty-run opening stand. They collapsed from 91/0 to 131/10 in the 2001 Auckland Test which was also against Pakistan.

90 – New Zealand’s total of 90 is the first Test total under 100 after a 50-run opening stand. The previous lowest Test total after a fifty-run opening partnership was 102 also by New Zealand against Sri Lanka in the 1992 Colombo Test (58-run opening stand).

105 – Yasir Shah became the first player to claim 100 wickets in Test cricket in the United Arab Emirates. The leg-spinner has taken 105 wickets in only 16 Tests at the end of 3rd day’s play of the Dubai Test.
