Stats: Oldest players to score a century in T20 cricket

At 41, Paul Collingwood scored his maiden century in Twenty20 cricket while playing in the NatWest T20 Blast for his team Durham on Sunday against Worcestershire at Worcester. He walked out to bat after the fall of a wicket in the 2nd over, Collingwood struck 10 fours and 4 sixes during his 108-run knock and remained unbeaten after facing 60 balls.

Unfortunately, Collingwood’s effort went down in losing cause as the home side Worcestershire chased down the 202-run target in just 18.1 overs for the cost of just 2 wickets. The former England captain’s previous highest score in T20s was 79 which he scored against West Indies in a T20I way back in 2007. This hundred was also the first ever century in T20 cricket for Durham as the right handed all-rounder went past the previous highest score for the county side of 91* by Graham Clarke and 91 by Phil Mustard in 2013 and 2015 respectively with both of them coming against Yorkshire.

Collingwood aged 41 years 65 days coming into this game and this made him the oldest ever player to score a century in Twenty20 cricket. The previous oldest player to score a century in the T20 format was former England player Graeme Hick, aged 41 years and 37 days, scored 110 for Worcestershire in 2007. No player other than these two has scored a century in this format after turning 40.

Mahela Jayawardene stands at third behind the two English men as he scored century aged 39 years and 208 days in December 2016 when he played the New Zealand domestic competition, the McDonald’s Super Smash. Adam Gilchrist, who holds the record for being the oldest man to score a century in the IPL stands at 4th on the list of oldest T20 centurions behind Jayawardene.
