Stats: Pakistan batsmen who have bagged a pair in Test cricket
Young batsman Babar Azam recorded a pair and became the 48th Pakistani batsman to hold the dubious record.
Led by Roston Chase’s 131 in the first innings, Shai Hope’s crucial 90 in the second innings and Shanon Gabriel’s match haul of 9 wickets; West Indies accounted their second win against Pakistan in the last 3 Test matches. A target of 188 seemed a walk in the park for Pakistan’s experienced batting line-up till they fell apart like a pack of cards to lose the Barbados Test by 106 runs.
As many as six ducks were scored by Pakistani batsmen during the course of the Test match. Retiring legends Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq scored one each in the first innings and the second innings respectively. A lot has been spoken about the 22-year-old Babar Azam ever since he made his ODI debut in 2015. The elegant right-hander has an impressive record in the format averaging 55.08 after 26 games.
Having seen his progress in the ODIs, Pakistan handed Azam a Test debut in 2016. His Test career hasn’t followed the same path his ODI made, though he showed that he belongs to this level with a patient 72-run knock in the 1st Test. In the 2nd Test though, he bagged a pair which again opened debates about his ability in the longest form of the game.
He faced two balls each in both innings before he was snapped by Gabriel and Joseph respectively. Babar became the 48th batsman from Pakistan to register a pair in Test cricket. The list includes big names like Mudassar Nazar, Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, Saleem Malik and Aamer Sohail. This was the second instance of a Pakistani batsman registering a pair in 2017 with Imran Khan being the other one who did it against Australia at Sydney in January this year.
