The Pakistan Women recorded a historic comeback on Sunday to take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match T20I series against South Africa Women. Tazmin Brits’ unbeaten 70-run knock played a key role in pushing the home team’s total to 138/3 in 20 overs. Pakistan got off to the worst possible start losing senior duo of Javeria Khan and skipper Bismah Maroof by the 3rd over and were placed at 3/3. Iram Javed scored a 45-ball 55 along with Nida Dar (32) and Aliya Riaz (30) as the visitors completed the chase for the loss of six wickets in the final over.

All the major stats and numbers recorded in the game as Pakistan made a terrific comeback:

A record comeback:

3 – The three runs Pakistan added for their first three wickets before eventually going on to win the game are the fewest any team has scored in a Women’s T20I that they won. The previous lowest was five runs by New Zealand against Australia in the 2010 Christchurch T20I.

Three runs are the 2nd fewest any team has added for their first three wickets in an International game in Women’s cricket to win. Sri Lanka defeated South Africa in the 2005 ODI World Cup match despite being 1/3 while batting first.

3/3 – Pakistan Women’s score of 3/3 is the 3rd lowest score for the loss of 3 wickets in a T20I across Men’s and Women’s cricket from where a team won the game. The two instances were recorded in Men’s T20Is as Zimbabwe bounced back from 0/3 against Windies in the 2010 Port of Spain T20I and Bahrain chased down 142 against the Maldives being 0/3 in the Al Amerat T20I this year.

Pakistan’s biggest chase:

139 – The target of 139 is the highest that the Pakistan Women successfully chased down in a T20I game. The previous highest T20I chase was 130 against Sri Lanka Women in the 2018 Colombo T20I. Pakistan Women chased down exactly 120 in the first T20I of the ongoing 5-match series which is the joint 3rd biggest T20I chase.

This game against South Africa and the 2018 T20I game in Colombo are the only instances when Pakistan Women completed a T20I chase in the final over. They completed the 130-run chase on the penultimate ball while the 139-run target was achieved on the 4th ball of the 20th over on Sunday.

A tough start:

3/3 – Only on five instances a team has recorded a worse start in a Women’s T20I. This is also the first time that Pakistan Women lost their first three wickets before putting up ten runs on the board. Their previous lowest aggregate for the first three wickets was 11 runs against Sri Lanka in the 2015 Sharjah T20I.

The rescue act:

77 – The 77-run partnership between Iram Javed and Nida Dar for the 4th wicket is the first 50-run 4th wicket stand after a team lost its first three wickets for five or fewer runs in T20I cricket (Men/Women). This is also the first 50+ partnership for the 4th wicket by a Pakistan pair after they lost three wickets inside 25 in Women’s T20I cricket.
