Stats: Players who have witnessed most wickets from the other end in Test cricket
Among the active players, Alastair Cook is the only player to witness over 200 wickets from other in Test cricket.
Known for playing marathon innings and stitching along something meaningful with the tail enders and scoring the runs despite the fall of wickets at the other end, the Windies legendary batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul holds a unique record of witnessing over 500 wickets from the other in Test cricket. Chanderpaul was a part of 771 partnerships in his Test career out of which only 21 remained unbeaten. In the 750 stands that were broken, Chanderpaul was on the other end on 519 occasions.
The only other player other than Chanderpaul who witnessed over 400 wickets from the other end while batting in Test cricket was India’s Rahul Dravid. The retired legend was a part of 707 partnerships that terminated out of which 453 times his partners were dismissed.
Among the active players, Alastair Cook is the only player to witness over 200 wickets from the other end in Test cricket. Cook has witnessed 321 wickets so far and stands at No.8 in the list. The 32-year old could well end up anywhere between 350 and 400 wickets given he might carry on for at least another 2-3 years in this format. If he does that, he will be concluding at the third standing behind Chanderpaul and Dravid.
Sachin Tendulkar though had a long career and scored the most runs in the Test cricket has witnessed only 350 wickets and stands at No.4 in the list of most wickets witnessed from the other end behind the Australian great Allan Border (364). However, Sachin is only next to Dravid who has been a part of over 30000 partnership runs. Dravid was a part of 32039 partnership runs while Sachin in 31245 runs.
