Ravichandran Ashwin bagged yet another record in Test cricket as he became the 2nd fastest to the 200 wickets milestone in the longest format of the game. Ashwin, playing in his career’s 37th Test at Kanpur vs New Zealand, completed 200 wickets in Test cricket with the wicket of New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson on day 4. Thus he stood 2nd on the list of quickest to 200 Test wickets only behind Australia Clarrie Grimmett, who took in 36 Tests.
This milestone puts him ahead of some of the great names in the cricketing history. By reaching the 200 wickets in just his 37 Test, He has now overtaken the likes of Dennis Lillee, Waqar Younis, Dale Steyn and Shane Warne. All of these legends took more number of matches than Ashwin to achieve this feat during their career.
Ravi Ashwin, who was the fastest to 50, 100 and 150 wickets mark for India in Tests, now became the fastest to 200 wickets as well. He took 9 matches each for his first two set of fifty wickets (1-50 and 51-100) while 11 for his 3rd set of fifty wickets (101-150). However, he took just 8 matches for his 4th set of fifty wickets (151-200).
