Stats: Ravichandran Ashwin completes 2000 runs in Test cricket

Ravichandran Ashwin struck a fifty on the 2nd day of the SSC Test against Sri Lanka to complete 2000 runs in his Test career. Ashwin, who missed out on a fifty in the first Test scoring 47, hit a six when batting on 48 to get to his 11th half century. Ashwin came down the ground and lofted a Rangana Herath delivery over long-off to complete his fifty.

This six also ensured Ashwin’s run tally in Test cricket went past 2000. Thus he became the 3rd Indian to complete 2000 Test runs by hitting a six after Harbhajan Singh and Virat Kohli. Ashwin also completed the double of 2000 runs and 200 wickets in the Test cricket and stood out as the 4th fastest among the 18 players who have achieved the feat. Ashwin, who is playing his 51st Test, was bettered by only Ian Botham (42), Kapil Dev (50) and Imran Khan (50).

Ashwin has taken 279 wickets so far which puts him into the list of players with 2000+ runs and 250+ wickets in the Test cricket. The 51 matches Ashwin has taken are the fewest for completing 2000 runs and 250 wickets in Tests as he overhauled Sir Richard Hadlee, who required 54 Tests for the double.

Among Indian players, Ashwin is only the 4th player to score 2000 runs and pick 200 wickets in the Test cricket after Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. All the four have picked up over 250 wickets in the format.
