Stats: Ravindra Jadeja and his love for big hundreds in first-class cricket
Ravindra Jadeja averages a stunning 523.5 while scoring a century in first-class cricket.
Ahead of crucial India’s tour of Australia, Ravindra Jadeja gained much-needed match practice with an all-round performance in the Ranji Trophy game for Saurashtra. Playing against Railways, Jadeja took a four-wicket haul in the first innings and followed it with an unbeaten 178. He shared a 171-run partnership with K Makwana from 173/7 to rescue his team. When yet another Ranji double ton for Jadeja looked in sight, Saurashtra lost their last three wickets in 13 deliveries to be bowled out on 348.
This was Jadeja’s 10th first-class century out of which he has converted three into triple centuries, two double tons and another two 150+ scores. His lowest FC century was an unbeaten 100 in the Test match last month against Windies which was also his maiden International century. While scoring a FC century, Jadeja averages a stunning 523.5. He has scored 5277 in 134 innings he batted in his first-class career out of which 2094 runs alone came when he struck a century.
Jadeja has a 100 to 200 conversion rate of 50% in first-class cricket which is the best for any player who has scored at least ten centuries in this format. The left-hander has ten centuries in FC cricket to his name out of which five are 200s. Sangram Singh, another player from India, has the second-best rate having converted four of his ten FC tons into 200s. Seven out of the top ten players with best conversion 100 to 200 rate in this format are Indians. Among the active players, Paras Dogra and Hanuma Vihari have the second best conversion rate.
Dogra upgraded seven of his 21 FC centuries to 200s while the Vihari has five out of 15 hundreds as double tons. Sir Donald Bradman produces 37 double centuries in his first-class career which makes up for a conversion rate of 31.62 as he scored 117 FC tons. His rate is the best among the players with more than 25 centuries. Liam Livingston has a conversion rate of 66.67 as four of his six FC centuries are doubles. Former Somerset player Matt Wood has converted four of his nine FC tons into 200s at a 44.44%.
