Alex Hales helped his side Nottinghamshire lift the Royal London One-Day Cup title on the back of his individual brilliance against Surrey in the final. Hales scored an unbeaten 187 in the 298-run chase scoring about 63 percent of his team’s total.
It looked like Hales would have to score at least 3/4th of the target alone as, by the time Notts lost their 5th wicket, the England opener had already piled 114 runs out of the team’s 150. Skipper Chris Read, who was playing his career’s last professional game scored 58, was only other one after Hales to score more than 20 in Nottingham’s inning.
The England opener’s innings of 187* stands at the 5th position among the highest scores in List A knockout games and the 2nd highest in any List A tournament final. Martin Guptill’s 237* in World Cup 2015 quarter-final and Ravi Bopara’s 202* for Essex in 2008 are the only double centuries in the knockouts of List A tournaments. Sanath Jayasuriya’s 189 over India in 2000 Coca-Cola Cup is the highest score in any final in the List A format.
