Stats: Rival teams registering three figure partnerships in same game in IPL
As on May 14, 2017, there have been 10 such instances.
Sunrisers Hyderabad players David Warner and Vijay Shankar shared an unbeaten century stand in the last league game for their franchise in the IPL 10. Their efforts helped the team register an important win over the Gujarat Lions that saw them qualify for the playoffs. Earlier, in the very same game, Dwayne Smith and Ishan Kishan had shared a 111-run partnership for the opening wicket for the Lions.
This was the 10th instance in the history of the IPL when rival teams notched up century run stands in the same game. The first time that such an instance took place was in the 2010 edition of the tournament. Saurabh Tiwary and Ambati Rayudu had shared 110 run stand for the 4th wicket in the match against the Rajasthan Royals.
In reply to that, Yusuf Pathan and Paras Dogra had stitched 107 runs for the fifth wicket in the Rajasthan Royals innings during the run chase. A season later, Mumbai Indians batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Ambati Rayudu shared a three figure partnership against the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. En route the century stand, Sachin had scored his maiden T20 ton.
However, that came in a losing cause as Brendon McCullum and Mahela Jayawardene shared a 128-run opening stand to overshadow the efforts of Sachin Tendulkar. The 2013 and the 2014 edition saw two such instances taking place in the tournament.
The 2017 edition has also seen two such instances take place. In one of the earlier fixtures, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant had notched up a 143 run stand for the Delhi Daredevils against the Gujarat Lions. In the same game, Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik had also put on a century stand.
