Stats: Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan start the tour with a record partnership
Here are the interesting stats and numbers that were created during India’s innings.
Team India began their Europe tour on high as their openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan set things up for a huge score in the first T20I game against Ireland. The pair added 160 runs in just 16 overs, however, India finished on 208/5 as they lost three wickets in space of four balls in the final over. Dhawan struck 74 in just 45 balls while Rohit batted till the final over before falling short of a century by just three runs.
Here are the interesting stats and numbers that were created during India’s innings:
1 – Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan is the first pair in the T20I history to share two 150+ partnerships. Eight other pairs have had one 150+ stand in this format. Dhawan and Rohit put on 158 for the opening wicket in the last year’s Delhi T20I against New Zealand.
2 – Rohit now has three fifties in three T20I innings having scoring 87 and 56 in his last two outings in this format. He is the 2nd player after Virat Kohli to score fifties in three consecutive T20I innings for India. Kohli scored a hat-trick of fifties in this format on three different occasions.
3 – The 160-run opening stand between Rohit and Dhawan is the 3rd 150+ partnership in this format for India and all of them while opening the batting. Sharma was involved in all the three 150+ T20I stands for India. He shared 158 with Dhawan against New Zealand in Delhi and 165 against Sri Lanka in Indore with KL Rahul in 2017.
7 – Rohit now has been part of seven century partnerships in T20I cricket. Only Martin Guptill (8) and Alex Hales (7) were involved in seven and more 100-run stands in this format.
160 – Rohit and Dhawan’s 160-run stand is the highest partnership for any wicket in the T20I format against Ireland. The previous highest stand against Ireland was 125 runs for the 3rd wicket between Ashish Bagai and Ravindu Gunasekara of Canada in 2013.
1103 – Rohit and Dhawan became only the 2nd pair to share 1000 runs in the T20I format for the opening wicket. David Warner and Shane Watson had 1108 runs between themselves for the first wicket in this format.
6056 – Shikhar Dhawan completed 6000 runs in the Twenty20 cricket when on 19 to become the 6th Indian after Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni to achieve this milestone.
10022 – Sharma completed 10000 runs in International cricket when he was on 75 in this innings. He became the 13th player to score 10000 runs across all the three International formats for India.
