Stats: Rohit Sharma becomes India's leading six-hitter in Twenty20 cricket

No one in this current Indian line-up can be as destructive as Rohit Sharma once he settles down and gets in the rhythm which was once again witnessed in the 1st T20I game against New Zealand at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Rohit struggled for the most part of his innings but ended up with a solid knock of 80 coming off just 52 balls. He recorded the highest partnership ever for India in T20I cricket along with Shikhar Dhawan to help India get to the 200-mark.

Rohit, who scored only 25 runs after facing 28 balls in the first ten overs, took another 13 balls for bringing up his fifty. He added another 28 runs in the 13 balls he faced after his fifty before getting out in the penultimate over. The Indian vice-captain struck four sixes and six fours during his innings and with the 2nd maximum of this knock, he became the leading sixes hitter among Indians in Twenty20 cricket.

At end of the game, Rohit had 268 sixes in this format, three more than the 2nd best Suresh Raina (265). Both these players batted exactly on 245 occasions in the T20 format and have a history of overtaking one another in the past as well in this list. Alongside these two, there are four other Indian players who have hit over 200 sixes in Twenty20 cricket including MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, who increased their tally during this game.

The fifty in this game was Rohit Sharma’s 12th in T20Is and his 47th in Twenty20 format. Including the three centuries, Rohit now has exactly fifty 50+ scores in this format. Thus he became the 7th player and the 3rd Indian after Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir to have fifty scores of 50+ in T20s. Both the Indian players have 51 fifties while Kohli has 55 fifty-plus scores including his four centuries. Chris Gayle scored 18 centuries and 65 fifties in this format while the 2nd best David Warner has 64 fifty-plus scores which include six hundreds.
