Team India is enjoying a rich vein of run under the leadership of new all-format skipper Rohit Sharma. Since taking a full-time leadership role in the T20I format, Rohit has been unbelievable in his captaincy. India has won all the T20I matches played with Rohit at the helm after the T20 World Cup 2021. To put the icing on the cake, the team has whitewashed all the three opponents New Zealand, West Indies, and the latest Sri Lanka 3-0 with all the series victories coming at home. India also won the ODI series 3-0 against West Indies in early February just before the T20I series with the Caribbean side.
The Men in Blue have played a total of 28 T20Is under the Mumbaikar and won 24 matches. Only four times the team has faced defeat in the shortest international format. The team has enjoyed a winning percentage of a staggering 85.71% in these 24 victories. Talking about the 50-overs format, Rohit has captained India in 13 ODI matches and led them to victory in 11 clashes with a winning percentage of 84.61%. Only twice India has lost an ODI contest under the stewardship of the new Indian skipper.

Rohit also went past England’s Eoin Morgan and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson tally of 15 home victories. Notably, Sharma’s 17 wins have come out of 18 matches while Morgan and Williamson have skippered in 25 and 30 matches respectively. Recently during the West Indies series, the Asian giants jumped to the no.1 spot in the ICC T20I rankings. The team also equaled Afghanistan and Romania’s record of 12 consecutive T20I wins. India last lost a T20 International was against the Blackcaps in the T20 WC 2021.
Rohit Sharma equaled Sarfaraz Ahmed for 5 whitewash victories in bilateral series
Rohit Sharma with a 3-0 series win over the Lankan Lions equaled former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed’s record of five whitewash victories in a T20I bilateral series of three matches. Sharma’s two other whitewash wins came against Sri Lanka in 2017 and against West Indies in 2018, both series were held in India. Sarfaraz achieved the feat within the period from 2016 to 2018. He also won two series against West Indies and one each against Sri Lanka, Australia, and New Zealand with a 3-0 scoreline.
Team India also registered their 17th victory against Sri Lanka in the T20I format, which is the most by any team against a particular opponent. Pakistan has won 16 T20I matches against the African country Zimbabwe. India also won their 40th match on home soil, which is the second-most by any team. New Zealand has tasted success on 41 occasions (including super over wins) in New Zealand. India’s emphatic and imperious T20I form also saw them win their 100th match in the format.
They became only the second team after Pakistan to reach the landmark of a century of victories. India’s juggernaut doesn’t seem to stop at this stage which is a great sign with T20 World Cup to follow later this year in October. Rohit Sharma will hope to lead his side to the silverware and end the ICC trophy drought which dates back to 2013.
