Stats: Most runs conceded by a bowler in a Champions Trophy game
Wahab Riaz has conceded 80 or more runs in an ODI innings on 4 occasions.
Pakistan left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz was trashed all over the park by the Indian top order batsmen in the Champions Trophy game as each of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh had a contribution in Riaz’s spell becoming all the more expensive.
The 31-year-old pacer conceded 87 runs in the 8.4 overs he bowled and was hit for 11 boundaries and 2 sixes. He had to leave the field in the middle of his 9th over after he landed awkwardly during his follow-through and was feeling uncomfortable even to stand. He didn’t turn up to bat for his side later in the game.
Even though Wahab could not complete his full quota, the 87 runs he has conceded are the most by any player in an innings in the Champions Trophy. The previous most runs conceded by a bowler in an innings in CT was Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Panyangara vs England in 2004 at the same venue.
So far bowlers have conceded over 80 and more runs in an innings 7 times in Champions Trophy two of them including Riaz have come in this 2017 edition in the first 4 matches. Jake Ball conceded 82 runs vs Bangladesh in the opening game of this tournament.
