Sachin Tendulkar achieved the unique distinction in the Quarter Final match of the tournament while playing against Australia at Dhaka. It was the first ever edition of the Champions Trophy and was known as the Wills International Cup back then in 1998.

Batting first, team India posted a sizeable 307/8 in their 50 overs. Sachin had come into open the innings with Sourav Ganguly. Despite losing Ganguly (1) and Mohammad Azharuddin (0) cheaply inside the first three overs, Sachin Tendulkar continued to take charge against the opposition bowlers. He took a special liking to Michael Kasprowicz in the game.

Sachin finished with 141 runs to his name in just 128 balls. He stayed at the crease for about 191 minutes and hit 13 fours and 3 sixes in his knock. In the run chase, Australia bundled out for 263 in 48.1 overs as Sachin returned with figures of 4/38 in the match.

He dismissed the opposition skipper Steve Waugh as he caught and bowled him on 7. He managed to run through the defenses of Michael Bevan in the game as well. He finished off by taking two more scalps of Damien Martyn and B Young.

This was the first instance when a player took a four-wicket haul in the Champions Trophy history.
