Stats: Shikhar Dhawan registers his highest ODI score in the Mohali ODI

Shikhar Dhawan bounced back with a devastating century against Australia as he helped India to post a record total of 358/9. After electing to bat first, the opening pair of Dhawan and Rohit Sharma added 193 in only 31 overs. Dhawan hit a flurry of boundaries during the first ten overs as India cruised at six runs an over. Once Rohit got out for 95, the left-hander took the charge as he struck 18 fours and three sixes on his way through to a 115-ball 143.

Here are all the major stats and numbers recorded by Shikhar Dhawan during his century in Mohali:

15 – Number of century opening stands between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma in ODI cricket; the joint 3rd most for any opening pair in this format. Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar pair had 21 such stands.

Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden shared as many as 16 100-run partnerships for the first wicket. The Windies pair of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes also had 15 century stand between them in ODI cricket.


126 – Dhawan scored his 16th century in ODI cricket in his 126th innings. Only Hashim Amla (98) and Virat Kohli (112) scored their 16th ODI ton quicker than Shikhar.


143 – The 143-run knock is his highest ODI score surpassing the 137 in the 2015 CWC against South Africa. He scored 187 in his maiden Test innings here in Mohali also against Australia; his 2nd highest score in Test cricket thus far.

Dhawan’s highest score of 143 is the 3rd lowest “highest score” among the 26 players with 15+ ODI tons. Jacques Kallis had a highest score of 139 among his 17 ODI tons while Mohammad Yousuf’s highest is 141* out of 15 hundreds.


239 – Innings Shikhar Dhawan needed to complete 10000 runs in List A cricket; the 3rd fewest among the 108 players with this milestone. Virat Kohli (219) and AB de Villiers (225) are the only players to reach 10000 List A runs quicker than Dhawan. Jacques Rudolph (240) is the only player to reach 10000 List A runs in less than 250 innings.


6012 – The pair of Dhawan and Rohit became only the 2nd Indian pair and the 6th in overall to share 6000 runs for the opening wicket in International cricket. The duo has 18 100-run opening stands between them across all formats; the joint 3rd most by any pair.
