Stats: Shikhar Dhawan’s century powers India to a record total of 352/5

India enjoyed the good batting conditions at the Kennington Oval to post a huge total of 352/5 against Australia after electing to bat first. Shikhar Dhawan continued his legacy in the ICC tournaments as he struck his 6th century across CWC and CT. He added 127 runs for the opening wicket with Rohit Sharma and 93 runs for the 2nd wicket with Virat Kohli. The Indian skipper shared 81 in only 8.5 overs with Hardik Pandya who struck 27-ball 48. This knock made a difference of at least 15 runs to India’s total.

All the major stats and numbers from India’s power-packed innings against Australia:

1 – Each of India’s top four scored 48 or more in this game – Rohit Sharma (57), Shikhar Dhawan (117), Virat Kohli (82) and Hardik Pandya (48). This is the first instance of a team’s top four scoring 45+ in an innings at the World Cup.

2 – Only the second time in the World Cup that each of the top three wickets had a partnership of 75 and more runs in an innings. The first such instance was recorded by Australia against Sri Lanka in the 2003 edition game in Centurion. This is also the first such instance for India in all ODI cricket.

3 – Shikhar Dhawan has scored three centuries in five ODI innings at the Kennington Oval. He is only the 2nd player to score as many as three ODI tons at a venue in England. Marcus Trescothick also has three tons at The Oval and also at the Lord’s.

4 – Shikhar Dhawan became the 2nd visiting player to score four ODI centuries in England. Sir Viv Richards was the first to do so. Among Indians, Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma have scored three tons apiece in this part of the World.

74 – Runs Mitchell Starc conceded in his ten overs; the most by an Australian bowler in a World Cup game. Ashley Mallet gave away 72 runs in his 12 overs during the 1975 CWC against Sri Lanka also in a game at The Oval.

117 – The 117-run knock from Dhawan is the 3rd highest individual score in the World Cup by any player against Australia. Neil Johnson scored an unbeaten 132 in an unsuccessful chase for Zimbabwe in 1999 while Chris Harris made 130 in the 1996 edition game in Chennai against the Aussies.

127 – Indian opening stand of 127 is the 2nd highest opening partnership in the World Cups. Graeme Smith and AB de Villiers put on 160 for the first wicket in the 2007 match in the Super-8s stage.

352/5 – India’s total of 352/5 is the highest total by any team in a World Cup game against Australia. The previous highest CWC score against the Aussies was 312/10 by Sri Lanka while chasing a target of 377 in the 2015 edition.

No other team has scored 300+ in the World Cups against the Australians. The previous highest CWC total that the 5-time champions have conceded while bowling first was 291/8 to Windies in the 60-over final of the 1975 edition.
