Stats: Shivam Dube gives away most runs in an over in a T20I after Stuart Broad's 36
The most expensive T20I over remains Stuart Broad’s over to Yuvraj Singh during the 2007 World T20 encounter between India and England.
The fifth T20I between New Zealand and India proved to be quite a nail-biter, maybe not on the level of the two super overs that we witnessed in the past two games, but still managed to go to the last over. The Bay Oval at Mount Maunganui witnessed history in the making as the Indian team became the first unit to win a T20I series 5-0.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma captained the side in Kohli’s absence and won the toss, deciding to bat first. He led from front scoring 61 and KL Rahul made a quick 45, as India put on a respectable 163/3 on the board. New Zealand didn’t start so well, with Guptill and Munro falling early. But then Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor, playing his 100th T20I, added 99 runs for the fourth wicket. They were cruising along with the chase, with India looking lacklustre.
A major turning point came in the match when Shivam Dube came onto bowl the 10th over of Kiwi innings. Seifert took a liking to the medium pacer, hitting him for two sixes and one four on the first three balls. He then took a run and then Dube bowled a no-ball to Taylor. The veteran celebrated his 100th T20I by then slamming two more sixes off the last two balls off Dube.
The Seifert-Taylor duo smacked Shivam Dube for 34 runs at Bay Oval
The duo took a total of 34 runs in the over with four sixes and one four, making it the second most expensive over in T20I history. The most expensive over remains Stuart Broad’s over to Yuvraj Singh during the 2007 World T20 encounter between India and England in Durban, when the Indian left-hander slammed six sixes in the over, making him the first batsman to achieve the feat in T20I format.
The third most expensive over came from Wayne Parnell, who gave away 32 runs to Jos Buttler in a T20I between England and South Africa in 2012, while Buttler, Bairstow, and Wright took the same number of runs off Izatullah Dawlatzai of Afghanistan in the same year.
Evin Lewis and George Munsey also took 32 runs off Stuart Binny and Max O’Dowd respectively in T20I cricket. While David Miller netted 31 runs off Mohammad Saifuddin in 2017 to round off the most expensive overs’ list in the format.
