Stats: Most sixes against Australia in Internationals and ODIs

Rohit Sharma has turned on the consistency switch in the limited-over cricket ever since he was promoted at the top as an opener. During these four years, Rohit has become a six-hitting monster as the Indian opener has hit a total of 113 sixes in ODI cricket in just 79 innings at an average of 1.43 sixes per innings. These are the most for any player as he surpassed AB de Villiers who has 106 sixes in 86 innings in this period.

Across formats, Rohit has hit a total of 169 sixes in 143 innings which is also the most for any player. The former South African skipper has hit 153 sixes since January 2013 by playing 15 innings more than the Indian batsman. Australia has always been on the receiving end as the 30-year-old now has hit most sixes in International cricket against Aussies than any other player.

With the first of his four sixes at the Indore, Rohit broke Brendon McCullum’s record, who has 61 sixes across formats against the Australians. In the ODI format alone, Rohit now has 48 sixes against the Kangaroos, a record he has been holding for the past one and half year. Out of the 48 sixes, Rohit has hit 47 of them after becoming a full-time opener in 2013. In these four years, no other players have hit more than 30 sixes against an opposition.

A couple of more sixes in the next two ODIs will make Rohit Sharma only the 3rd player with 50 sixes against a single opposition. Shahid Afridi has over 50 sixes in ODI format against India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand while Sanath Jayasuriya has hit 50+ sixes against Pakistan. Australia’s nightmare, Sachin Tendulkar finds a place in the list of players with most sixes against Australia as he hit 35 in ODIs and 60 in International matches against them.

Most sixes against Australia in ODI cricket:

In the ODI matches between India and Australia, Sachin stands 2nd in the list of most sixes by a player with 35 sixes as Rohit stands at the top undisputed with 48 blows over the fence out of which 16 were hit during his 209 at Bangalore in 2013.
