Tamim Iqbal, well known for his attacking instincts and stroke-play, has got the ability to play out deliveries when required for the team. One such occasion was during the first of the 3-match ODI series against the Windies. The Bangladesh opener batted out full 50 overs scoring an unbeaten 130 off 160 balls. Tamim was on slower side for most of the innings before launching the ball into the stands in the last few deliveries.

The left-hander batted at a slow pace along with all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who also was on the slower side. Tamim brought up his fifty in 87 balls with four fours and a six before he rotated the strike regularly towards his century. The Bangladesh opener needed 59 balls for his second fifty that included only three fours. Tamim raised his century in 146 balls and added 30 more by end of the team’ innings as he scored 21 runs in the last five balls he faced.

Slowest ODI centuries by Bangladesh players:

Tamim Iqbal’s 146-ball century in this game is the slowest century in ODI format for Bangladesh. Shahriar Nafees scored a 143-ball hundred against Zimbabwe during the 2006 Champions Trophy game. Nafees, in fact, scored three of the five slowest ODI centuries by Bangladesh players. He scored two centuries in 136 balls, both against Zimbabwe in 2006 only. Interestingly, Tamim also holds the record for the slowest century in Test cricket for Bangladesh. He needed 312 balls for his century against Zimbabwe in the 2014 Khulna Test match.

Tamim’s century is also the slowest ODI ton by any player since the start of 2011. In these seven years, the slowest ODI hundreds came off 143 balls before Tamim’s 146-ball ton. Ahmed Shehzad in 2011 and Marlon Samuels in the 2015 CWC scored centuries taking 143 balls. The 146-ball ton by Tamim is also the 4th slowest in ODI cricket in the 21st century. Scott Styris’ 152-ball century in the 2007 World Cup against Sri Lanka is the slowest ODI hundred in the last 25 years.
