Stats: Sri Lanka win their first home ODI series in nearly four years
Here are all the statistical highlights from Sri Lanka’s second straight win over Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka sealed the 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh with one game to spare as the hosts registered a 7-wicket win. In a do-or-die game, Bangladesh’s top-order collapsed except for Mushfiqur Rahim. The keeper-batsman scored an unbeaten 98 to take his team to a respectable total of 238/8. Avishka Fernando struck 82 from only 75 balls to kill the little hope of Bangladesh in defending the target. Angelo Mathews also scored an unbeaten 52 as the hosts reached the target with 32 balls to spare.
Here are all the statistical highlights from Sri Lanka’s second straight win over Bangladesh:
Sri Lanka end their drought:
12 – Sri Lanka failed to win any of the last 12 multi-match bilateral ODI series before coming into this series. Their last win during an ODI series of two or more games came way back in 2016 against Ireland in Ireland (2-0 in a 2-match series).
2015 – This is Sri Lanka’s first ODI series victory at home since the start of 2016. Their last home ODI series win came against Windies in 2015 which they won 3-0. Between these two series wins, Lankans lost five ODI series while a 3-match series against Bangladesh in 2017 ended in 1-1.
A rare win for Sri Lanka:
10 – Sri Lanka brought an end to their 10-match losing streak in ODI cricket while chasing a target. Their last successful ODI chase was also against Bangladesh while chasing a target of 83 in January 2018 which they did so without losing a wicket.
2017 – Last time Sri Lanka successfully chased down a target of 200+ in ODIs was in July 2017 against Zimbabwe during a 311-run chase. Between these two wins, Sri Lanka lost 14 consecutive ODIs whenever the target was 200 or more.
New milestone for Rahim:
6090 – Mushfiqur Rahim completed 6000 runs in ODI cricket where he got to his personal score of 8 in this game. He is the 3rd player from Bangladesh to achieve this milestone only after Tamim Iqbal (6890) and Shakib Al Hasan (6323).
A lone effort from Mushfiqur:
98* – Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten 98 is the 2nd highest individual ODI score for Bangladesh where the remaining six players in the top-7 got out under 20. Shakib Al Hasan scored 108 in the 2008 Multan ODI against Pakistan where the remaining eight of the top-9 batters were dismissed under 20.
Dananjaya @ 50:
35 – Akila Dananjaya completed 50 wickets in ODI cricket for 35 matches; the joint 5th fastest Sri Lankan to this milestone. Akila is also the 2nd fastest Sri Lankan spinner with 50 ODI wickets after Ajantha Mendis who needed 19 matches and is also the holder of the fastest to 50 ODI wickets record. No Sri Lankan spinner other than Dananjaya and Mendis has completed 50 ODI wickets inside 40 games.
