Rain decreasing the number of overs in the contest could not stop Team India from posting yet another massive total as they ended up with 310/5 in the restricted 43 overs against the Windies in the 2nd ODI of the 5-match series at the Port of Spain. With this total, India now holds the record for most 300+ totals in ODI cricket as this was their 96th such total and broke Australia’s record of 95 ODI totals of 300+. This was the 609th total in excess of 300 in overall ODI cricket.
Indian openers gave a strong start with a century stand like in the previous game which ended in a washout. Ajinkya Rahane carried on to score a century while Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan’s fifties helped India finish with a tremendous total. All the 96 totals of 300+ by India have come in 50 or fewer overs. Australia have two 300+ totals in 60 overs game which meant they have only 93 in the 50 or fewer over matches.
While batting first, the Indian side posted 300+ on 70 occasions; the 2nd most times by any team. Australia have 85 totals over 300 runs in ODIs while batting first. During the chasing, Team India has gone past the 300-run mark on 26 occasions; 10 more than the second best Sri Lanka (16).
Talking about the individual, MS Dhoni has been involved in 65 totals of 300 and more in this format; the most by any player. The 2nd best is Yuvraj Singh as this game was the 54th instance of his team posting 300+ in ODIs. The 3rd spot in this list is also grabbed by an Indian as Sachin Tendulkar was involved in 52 totals of over 300 by India.
