The Pakistan pacer Umar Gul made a comeback on Wednesday when his Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Multan Sultans took on Quetta Gladiators. Gul didn’t feature in the first six matches of Sultans but produced a remarkable bowling performance in his first game of the season. The right-arm pacer took 6/24 in his fours overs to register his best bowling figures in the Twenty20 format. However, his efforts couldn’t stop Gladiators from chasing down 153 in a nail-biting thriller.

Gul was given the ball in the 7th over where he dismissed Shane Watson and also Asad Shafiq in his next over. In the 2nd spell, Gul got rid of the opposition skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and Rilee Rossouw in the same over to tilt the match towards his team. However, he conceded two sixes on the first three balls as the equation came down to nine off nine balls. At this point, Gul sent back both set batsmen to complete his four overs spell with 4-0-24-6. Thus, he became only the 2nd player after Ravi Bopara (6/16 in 2016) to take a 6-fer in PSL history.

This was the 3rd time Umar Gul picked a 5-wicket haul in Twenty20 cricket as he had figures of 5/6 on two occasions in the T20I format. With the 6-fer against Quetta, Gul became the only the 6th player and the first Pakistan player to take three 5-fers in the T20 format. Lasith Malinga (4) is the only player to take more than three 5-wicket hauls in the T20 history. Gul also became only the 5th player with a 6-wicket haul on the losing side in this format.

With those six wickets in the game, Gul also completed 200 wickets in the T20 format. The 33-year-old had 195 wickets in this format before the game and completed the milestone with his 5th wicket. He became the 2nd quickest to the milestone taking only 147 games achieve it. His fellow Pakistan player Saeed Ajmal was the quickest to 200 T20 wickets as he needed only 139 games for the milestone. Lasith Malinga (149 matches) is only other player to take less than 150 matches for completing 200 T20 wickets.
