Virat Kohli added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap and became the 11th Indian to score 5000 Test runs in his career. He achieved the feat after reaching 25 in the ongoing third and final Test match against Sri Lanka in Delhi. The skipper has been in amazing touch in the series and is coming off a double century in Nagpur in the second Test. However, he would love to notch up another big score and end the home season on a high.

Kohli reached the milestone in his 105th innings and 63rd Test match of his career. He is the fourth fastest among Indians ahead of the likes of Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin and Gundappa Viswanath. Sunil Gavaskar tops the chart who reached his 5000 Test runs in just 95 innings followed by Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli though is still young and would be hungry for more runs in the future.

Fastest to 5000 Test runs

Virender Sehwag completed his 5000 runs for India in 58 Test matches and 98 innings as he played one match for ICC World XI.

What about the fab four?

Virat Kohli is the last batsman among the current fab four to enter the 5000 runs club. Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson have already breached the mark but only the Australian captain achieved it faster than his Indian counterpart. He did it in just 97 innings during his 53rd Test match as opposed to Kohli who took a little bit of more time. Root managed it in the same number of innings like the Indian skipper and Williamson was the slowest to the milestone in 110 innings.

Kohli looking good for a big score in Delhi

Virat Kohli is currently very comfortable in the middle in the ongoing third Test match on his home ground. he has come out with more intent in the post-lunch session is already unbeaten on 42 off just 48 balls. He may well be on his way to 20th Test century. Murali Vijay is also scoring runs easily as the duo is piling on runs. Sri Lanka needs to find a way through them quickly before they take the game away from them. India are currently 148/2 after 35 overs as the post-lunch session has gone their way so far.
