It was a great outing for Virat Kohli in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand where the Indian bagged quite a few milestones during his innings. In a series-deciding match, the Indian skipper scored 113 off just 106 sharing a 230-run 2nd wicket stand with Rohit Sharma to take India to a big total of 337/6 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

Starting the innings by completing 2000 runs across the three International formats in 2017, Kohli broke the record of scoring the most runs in a calendar year as captain in ODI cricket. He later went on to become the first captain with six ODI centuries in a year as he got to his 32nd century in this format. In the first ODI in Mumbai, Kohli moved to the 2nd spot among batsmen with most number of centuries in the ODI format with his 31st hundred. He went past Ricky Ponting (30) with that knock and now is only 18 behind Sachin’s tally.

When Kohli reached his individual score of 83 runs, the Indian skipper completed 9000 runs in ODI cricket. Thus he became only the 6th Indian and the 19th player to complete 9000 ODI runs. Having got there in 194 innings, Kohli is the fastest to the milestone bettering the previous fastest, AB de Villiers by 11 innings. The South African batsman set the record in February this year breaking Sourav Ganguly’s record.

Kohli is also the quickest batter to reach 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000 and now 9000 runs among Indians in ODI cricket. He is jointly fastest for the 1000 ODI runs with Shikhar Dhawan, who is the fastest to 2000 and 3000 ODI runs among Indians. The Indian captain also completed 5000 runs in International cricket during this innings becoming the fastest to the milestone in just 93 innings.
