Stats: Washington Sundar places himself in the list of youngest debutants for India in ODIs

It is indeed an enduring day for 18-year-old Washington Sundar who made his debut for the Indian team in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Mohali. He has definitely got the biggest opportunity to showcase his talent at the grand stage in the crucial match for his team. The all-rounder has now made his way into the list of youngest debutants to represent Team India in ODIs.

Sundar got his chance after middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav pulled out of the three-match ODI series due to an injury. He has surely earned his place in the national side after a top performance in the domestic season with both bat and ball. The debutant also became the youngest cricketer to score a century and take a five-wicket haul in the Duleep Trophy final game. He also impressed everyone with his match-winning performances in the second edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

Sundar gets the seventh spot in the charts

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is still the youngest Indian cricketer to make an ODI debut at the age of 16 years, 238 days. While, left-handed batsman Sundar secured the seventh spot in the list making his debut at 18 years, 69 days. The tally also consists of many veterans of Indian cricket who have contributed at their highest levels for the team in the past.

The second ODI is an important game for the Men in Blue after a massive defeat in the first ODI at Dharamshala. Young debutant Sundar also has his moment to reflect his domestic form at the biggest stage and secure his place in this team. While it is also a fact that the permutations and combinations are surely in the minds of team management and the selectors before the important tour of South Africa starting next year.
