Stats: Yorkshire and Kent set new T20 records during the NatWest T20 Blast

On a fascinating day in England, which witnessed the inception of their first ever day/night Test match, the domestic T20 tournament NatWest T20 Blast stole its share of the limelight as well. In the North group game between Yorkshire and Northamptonshire at Leeds, the home side posted a record 260/4 total with the help of Adam Lyth’s blistering 161-run knock while the South group game between Kent and Essex recorded totals over 200 as individual hundreds were recorded in both the innings.
Here we look at the stats and records created during the day in the NatWest T20 Blast.
3 – Number of centuries recorded in the NatWest T20 Blast on August 17th. Yorkshire’s Adam Lyth, Kent’s Jon Denly, and Essex’s Varun Chopra were the three centurions on the day. This is only the third instance of three players scoring centuries on the same day in Twenty20 cricket. 9th and 30th of July, 2017 also witnessed three T20 hundreds.
15 – Number of centuries recorded in this NatWest T20 Blast so far; the most number of centuries in a Twenty20 series/tournament. A total of 13 centuries were recorded during the 2015 edition of T20 Blast.
20 – Number of fours Adam Lyth hit during his innings of 161; the joint-most fours for any player in a T20 inning. Ahmed Shehzad also hit 20 fours during his innings of 107 in 2012 Pakistan domestic T20.
27 – Adam Lyth’s 27 boundaries in his knock of 161 are the 2nd most number of boundaries for any player in a T20 inning. Lyth hit 20 fours and 7 sixes during his massive knock. Chris Gayle hit 17 sixes and 13 fours when he scored an unbeaten 175.
77 – Runs Ben Sanderson of Northamptonshire conceded in his 4 overs against Yorkshire; the 2nd most by any player in a T20 game. Sarmad Anwar conceded 81 runs in a Pakistan domestic T20 game in 2011.
161 – Adam Lyth’s 161 is the 3rd highest individual score in Twenty20 cricket behind Chris Gayle’s 175* and Hamilton Masakadza’s 162*. Lyth’s innings is also the highest in a T20 game in England. Brendon McCullum scored an unbeaten 158 for Warwickshire at Birmingham in 2015.
207 – Partnership stand between Joe Denly and Daniel Bell-Drummond for Kent against Essex is the highest opening stand in Twenty20 history. They broke Jamie How and Peter Ingram’s 201-run opening stand, recorded in the New Zealand domestic T20 in 2012. Overall, this is the third highest stand for any wicket in Twenty20 cricket and first, of the seven double century stands in the format to be recorded in England.
260/4 – Yorkshire’s total of 260/4 is the joint 2nd highest total in Twenty20 history. RCB in IPL 2013 and Australia in a T20I in 2016 recorded totals of 263/5 and 263/3 respectively. In 2007 World T20, Sri Lanka posted a total of 260/6 against Kenya.
260/4 – The 260/4 total by Yorkshire is their highest in Twenty20 format and the highest for any team in England. Gloucestershire scored 254/3 vs Middlesex back in 2011. The previous highest total for Yorkshire was 233/6 against Worcestershire last month.
