Former India player Virender Sehwag took a dig at the Chennai Super Kings and said replacing Ravindra Jadeja as the captain of the team in place of MS Dhoni was not the right decision by the management. The CSK captaincy was handed over to Jadeja ahead of the IPL 2022 season, but due to CSK’s rough patch, it was handed back to Dhoni midway into the tournament.

CSK’s recent defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MCA Stadium in Pune means their chance to qualify for the playoffs are over. Of the 10 games that they have played so far, CSK have managed to win only three. After Mumbai Indians, CSK became the second team to be eliminated from the playoffs race this season. Meanwhile, the team’s frequent changes and amends in the decision-making style have left Sehwag displeased.

“The first mistake they did was at the start of the season when they announced that MS Dhoni won’t be captaining and it will be Ravindra Jadeja. I think that was a wrong decision. Also, I think, if Jadeja was the captain, he should have been sustained for the rest of the seasons,” Sehwag was quoted by Cricbuzz after the conclusion of the RCB vs CSK clash.

Sehwag speaks up on CSK’s faulty playing combination

“There was no settled playing XI. Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t score runs in the beginning. The batters didn’t score runs. In one match MS Dhoni scored. In another match, Gaikwad scored. In the match where Dhoni hit boundaries in the last over, that game was also almost lost. They started poorly, then batters did not score, from there on the season went haywire. If Dhoni had been the captain from the beginning then it would’ve been better and maybe CSK wouldn’t have lost so many matches,” Sehwag added.

After putting a target of 174 for CSK to chase on the same pitch where the latter had won their previous game, RCB bowlers did a tremendous job by scalping wickets at regular intervals. They managed to dismiss their top and middle-order as CSK’s game halted at 160/8 and RCB won by 13 runs.
