Australian skipper Steven Smith is bossing around off the field too. Steve Smith has fired back at Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who had earlier made fun of Smith’s batting stance. Recently Aussie all-rounder G was involved in an exciting project with the Big Ant Studios. The creator of the Don Bradman gaming franchise, is set to release a fully licensed video game in November, and they had roped in Maxwell to imitate the batting stance and shots of various cricketers for motion picture capture. Apart from Maxwell and Smith, Emma Inglis and Mackinley Blows too had their movements captured in a complex recording process.
Maxwell-Smith in a battle of imitation
Maxi started off by copying Australian opener David Warner and then skipper Smith; and he went on to mimic the popular openers Mathhew Hayden and Justin Langer too. The most hilarious part was him imitating Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s sword-celebration. Maxwell ended up losing his bat.
Smith has given it back to Maxwell in the most ‘savage’ way possible. The skipper was seen imitating Maxwell’s most freakish dismissal against Brisbane Heat in the 2014 Big Bash League. Maxwell looked clueless as he left a swinging ball completely, which went on to hit the stumps. The video is still one of the most viral ones on the internet.
Reaching to younger fans
Cricket Australia has welcomed the new gaming prospect and feels that it will help fans connect better. “Cricket Australia’s new strategy recognises the growing role that gaming can play in reaching younger fans,” said Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland. “And by working with the likes of Big Ant to develop products that meet this need we are positioning ourselves as leaders in the cricket gaming space globally.
“Time and time again players tell us the feature they love most about our cricket games is the deep customisation options,” said Big Ant CEO, Ross Symons. “We have produced a true Ashes cricket game, through and through, but we’ve also made sure that our heritage in sports games remains true.” he added.
