Steve Smith is arguably one of the most prolific run scorers in international cricket. However, he had got himself tangled in several controversies, which hasn’t helped his reputation as a person one bit. The fatal one came a few days earlier at the Newlands in Cape Town when the ball-tampering fiasco shook the cricketing world. After the investigations, Steve was stripped of the captaincy and was handed a ban of one year by Cricket Australia.
James Sutherland, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CA, has condemned the heinous crime and immediately asked for Smith, along with David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, to leave South Africa with immediate effect. Recently, while leaving the country, Steve Smith has been greeted by an aggressive crowd at the Johannesburg crowd. While the media tried to catch hold of him, the bystanders hurled boos at the stripped Aussie skipper.
Subsequently, he was escorted, wrapped in tight security. Earlier, Smith successfully cleared the OR Tambo airport without any hassles, however, this time around he wasn’t able to evade the wrath of the throng. The treatment wasn’t unexpected owing to the shambolic incidents which panned out in the last few days in the Rainbow Nation. Meanwhile, Cameron Bancroft had a clearer passage through the crowd in the airport.
Here is a video of the treatment posted on Kevin Pietersen’s Instagram account
Apart from Australian cricket, the cricketer has also been barred from playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Previously, he stepped down as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals following his confession about the ball-tampering saga.
Meanwhile, following the incident, the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council has also barred the cricketer from participating in the tournament. Meanwhile, the Aussies would be hoping to recover from the jolt and string together a decent performance in the fourth and final Test at the Wanderers.
