Steve Smith's father packs up his cricket kit, says his son won't need it for a year

Since yesterday, a video is circulating on social media the heartbreaking video of Steve Smith apologizing to his fans for tampering the ball in a match against South Africa in Cape Town. Recently, another saddening video is doing rounds on the internet, which is of Smith’s father is packing his cricket kit bag and putting it aside.

The disputed former Aussie skipper left the country for the United Arab Emirates. While his return back home has not been declared yet, his father Peter Smith was seen packing his cricket kit and dumping it into the family garage. On being asked about the reason behind his action, he said that his son won’t be needing the kit bag for the next one year. When Seven News asked him about the condition of his 28-year-old son, the old man with a sobbing tone said: “He’ll be fine, he’ll survive, he’ll survive.”

Yesterday, Smith apologized to the Australian loyalists for bringing shame to the country with his malicious deeds which severely violates the sanctity of the gentleman’s game. Breaking down in tears, he had said, “I’m the captain of the Australian team. It’s on my watch and I take responsibility of the actions of what happened last Saturday in Cape Town.”

The outburst occurred when the man from Sydney, New South Wales spoke about the pain he has inflicted on his parents. “Any time you think about making a questionable decision, think about who you’re affecting, you’re affecting your parents. To see the way my old man’s been, it hurts. I just want to say I’m sorry for the pain that I’ve brought to Australia and the fans and the public, it’s devastating and I’m truly sorry,” said Smith, as tears rolled down his cheeks.

Darren Lehmann‘s reaction

Although Cricket Australia (CA) didn’t impose any ban on the Australian head coach Darren Lehmann, he resigned from his duty on his own accords.

Speaking of his former general’s statement, he said, “We’ve lost a great young man that’s again made a mistake. We all love him, the public love him. At the moment obviously it’s hard for him and his family. I feel for him.”
