Australian cricketer Steve Smith is currently serving the one-year ban sanctioned on him by the Cricket Australia for his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering saga. The then skipper came out and confessed his crimes in front of the press after the third day of the 3rd Test in Cape Town.
Ever since the incident took place, the Australian cricketer was being severely criticized and trolled by cricketers, media, and fans on social networking sites. Smith came out and spoke to the press with his dad Peter Smith and broke down as he confessed his regret. Smith will be back in action next year in March and will not be allowed to captain the side for the next World Cup.
The next one year will be incredibly difficult for Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft. But as they suggested in their respective press conferences, they’ll try to reflect on their decision and contemplate about the mistakes they’ve committed and try to become better individuals.
Cricket not a priority for Smith right now: Peter Smith
Talking to a famous British Media house, Peter Smith suggested that cricket is not a priority for the 28-year-old right now. He said this after there were many rumors suggesting he would play County cricket for Surrey this season. He also spoke at length about Smith’s fiancee Dani Willis, who has been beside the cricketer in these tough hours.
Senior Smith suggested that Dani and Steve’s wedding is very much on and that’s the couple sole priority right now. Peter also said that Steve is trying to relax away from Australia as he wishes to stay far from all the brouhaha and can slowly recuperate mentally.
“She has been incredibly supportive and is his complete and absolute rock. It’s fair to say the wedding is still on — that’s their priority now. Steve is trying to relax away from Australia. He has to be away from things at the moment to get back to where he was, slowly and surely,” Smith’s father said according to the Daily Telegraph.
