Steve Waugh backs Agar and Fawad Ahmed to come good in India

Steve Waugh has been one of those players who has seemingly been caught up in the upcoming series against India. Clearly concerned for the Aussies, Waugh has gone on to warn the Australians of what could be coming when it came to plying their trade in the subcontinent.

However, with Ashton Agar and Fawad Ahmed in the reckoning for the upcoming series, Waugh has backed the initiative of having spinners to be a part of the side. The 34-year old Fawad Ahmed, who plays for the Sydney Thunder has also been impressive and is someone who can possibly make an impact in the grand scheme of things.

He went on to add that Ashton agar would come good in the upcoming series against the Indians. “Agar, he’s a huge talent and did well in his first Test match (in 2013),” Waugh told cricket.com.au. “He says he’s an allrounder so he’ll add something to (the squad). I think he could do really well on Indian pitches but he seems to be a fair way out of the calculation.”

Matthew Wade is clearly expected to be the keeper of the squad with Phil Neville well and truly out and the experiment having failed quite miserably. “(The selectors) obviously, believe (Wade) is a good keeper as well (as a good batsman),” Waugh said. “To replace Peter Nevill, you wouldn’t do that without thinking it through because Nevill’s a fantastic keeper and a good batsman.

“They obviously believe Wade can keep well and he’s done a pretty good job so far. I’m a big believer in backing someone until you believe there’s someone better to replace them. They’ve picked him and he’s done OK. He needs some runs to stay in the side but I don’t think they change a winning side.”
